Prof Ramon TorrentProfessor of Political Economy, University of Barcelona, Spain

He was previously the Director of the Department of Political Economy, Public Finance and Taxation of the University of Barcelona (1986 – 1988) and the Vice Rector of the University of Barcelona (1977 – 1986).
He was also the former Director of External Economic Relations in the Legal Service of the Council of the European Union in Brussels and the Director of the International Chair WTO/Regional Integration, created by the University of Barcelona.
He has acted as the Coordinator of the Observatory of European Union (Latin America Relations) and Coordinator of the EU project on Implementation in Colombia of the European Standard for Digital Television.
He was the Coordinator of the EU’s Erasmus Mundus projects BRIDGES-LAC and PROMHEDEU – LAC (on cooperation on Higher Education between the EU and Latina America) and JISER – MED (on cooperation on Higher Education between the EU and the Mediterranean Countries).
He has acted as an adviser and consultant for the European Commission; the InterAmerican Development Bank; the Secretariat for Economic Integration of Central America; the Governments of Peru and Ecuador and other national and international Institutions.
He obtained his LL.D from the Autonomous University of Barcelona has published extensively in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese on many topics from Regional Integration and International Cooperation on Higher Education.
