Professor J Surujlal is a research professor at Vaal University of Technology. He has held various position at the Vaal University of Technology including: curriculum coordinator, chairperson of the Faculty Research Committee and member of the management portfolio team of the Faculty of Management Sciences.
He is a recipient of the University’s Council bursary for overseas study, the Rector’s Award for Teaching Excellence and University Researcher of the Year Award. He also currently reviews articles for the African Journal for Physical, Health Education, Recreation and Dance, and the South African Journal for Research in Sport, Physical Education and Recreation.
He has been a Rotary Club member for many years and convened one of the largest Interact clubs in South Africa. As a Rotarian he has received the Vocational Service Award twice.
Professor J Surujlal was born in Durban, KwaZulu Natal in South Africa. He registered at the University of South Africa in 1982 for a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in accounting and economics. In 1994, he completed an Advanced University Diploma in Public Administration at the University of Durban-Westville and in 1995 he completed a Master of Public Administration at the same university. He then went on to complete his PhD in sport management at the Rand Afrikaans University (now known as the University of Johannesburg).
He has written chapters in textbooks as well as published extensively in various journals.
