Dr. Johannes Berchtold (1974) is Vice President of the St. Gallen Foundation for International Studies, the supervisory body of the St. Gallen Symposium (Switzerland). For decades, the St. Gallen Symposium has been a leading conference for intergenerational dialogue at the interface of politics, the economy and society. In his capacity, Dr Berchtold is in charge of the St. Gallen Symposium’s international contacts with a special focus on the Middle East, the Gulf Region and India. Furthermore, he is responsible for all matters regarding content and programme planning. After a successful entrepreneurial career in the education sector, Dr Berchtold joined the St. Gallen Symposium in 2007. He holds a doctorate in legal history from the University of Zurich with special consideration of Britain and the Middle East. He was a visiting research fellow in London for three years and has published in the fields of legal history and extraterritorial jurisdiction. Besides his research work, he held several teaching positions at the University of Zurich.
